The Plant:
Tea tree is a small evergreen tree native to Australia, where it has been used by the indigenous Aboriginal people for thousands of years to treat wounds, infections and skin conditions. It takes its name from Captain Cook, whose crew brewed the leaves to make a tea to prevent scurvy during their exploration of Australia and New Zealand in the 18th century. Tea tree became widely known in the Western world during the First and Second World Wars when it was used as a natural antiseptic for soldiers’ wounds.
